THIS WAS IN THE PRESENTATION LAST YEAR WHEN YOU HAD YOUR MEETING LAST JUNE. AND AT THAT TIME, STAFF WENT OVER THE FACT THAT PHASE ONE OF THE PARK IS COMPLETE AND THE MAJORITY OF THAT WAS THE PLAYGROUND. AND THEN PHASE TWO IS ALSO COMPLETE. AND THAT WAS THE COMMUNITY GARDEN. SOME ONGOING THINGS THAT HAVE BEEN GETTING UPDATED AT THE PARK. WE HAVE ONE COMPOST DROP OFF SITE THAT HAS BEEN ADDED. THE FALL PUMPKIN COLLECTION IS NOW AT TAYLOR FARM PARK AND THE POCKET PRAIRIES PROJECT THAT YOU HEARD ABOUT LAST YEAR IS UNDERWAY.

FOR WHAT THAT WHOLE PROJECT LOOKS LIKE, AND CURRENTLY FOR PHASE THREE, IT IS IN THE DESIGN STAGE. WE ARE PLANNING FOR PHASE THREE. IT IS IN THE VERY EARLY STAGES AND THAT IS EXAMINING WHAT WILL BE DONE WITH THE EXISTING HOUSE. ARE THERE OPTIONS NOW? AND LIKE I SAID, TAYLOR FARM PARK IS ONE OF THE THREE LOCATIONS IN ADDITION TO PLANTERS GROVE PARK AND JAMES RIVER PARK. AND JUST AS A REFRESHER FROM LAST YEAR, THIS IS A DESIGN AND INSTALL OF SPECIALIZED NATIVE PLANT HABITATS, AND THESE ARE THE TWO PLANS. ON THE LEFT IS PLANTERS GROVE, AND ON THE RIGHT IS A MORE DETAILED PLAN FOR JAMES RIVER. IT'S HARD TO SEE BECAUSE IT IS ZOOMED IN, BUT THAT IS THE SECTION THAT IS TO THE NORTH OF THE PLAYGROUND AND THE PLANTING OF THE NATIVE SEEDS AND YOUNG PLANTS HAS BEEN SCHEDULED FOR SPRING OF THIS YEAR, 2026. SO THAT IS JUST GETTING KICKED OFF. AND THE INSTALLATION SHOULD BE COMPLETE BY FALL OF THIS YEAR. I WOULD LIKE TO POINT OUT THAT THIS PROCESS IS SOMEWHAT OF A THREE YEAR CYCLE. YOU DO THE CLEARING AND THEN YOU DO THE PLANTING, AND THEN YOU DO THE MAINTENANCE FOR A COUPLE OF YEARS. AND THEN IT DOES TAKE SOME TIME FOR THESE. PLANTINGS TO ACTUALLY LOOK BEAUTIFUL. SO WE'RE WORKING ON THIS NOW. IT WILL TAKE A COUPLE OF YEARS AND HARD WORK TO GET IT UP TO WHERE WE WANT IT TO BE. THE IDEA IS THAT IF THESE GO WELL, THEY'RE KIND OF LIKE TEST PLOTS. PERHAPS IF THEY TURN OUT WELL, IF THEY CAN BE DUPLICATED IN OTHER AREAS OF THE CITY. THIS WAS A SUSTAINABILITY ADVISORY BOARD INITIATIVE. THAT BOARD HAS MOSTLY FOCUSED ON WASTE DIVERSION EFFORTS, AND THEY HAVE TURNED THEIR ATTENTION TO OTHER SUSTAINABILITY AREAS IN THE CITY. AND NATIVE LANDSCAPING HAS BEEN ONE OF THEM. SO THEY PUT THIS PROJECT IN THEIR BUDGET, WHICH WAS APPROVED BY CITY COUNCIL. SO THIS IS KIND OF A TEST RUN FOR SOME AREAS OF THE CITY. AND IF IT GOES WELL, LIKE I SAID, WE CAN BE REPLICATING IT OTHER PLACES. AND MAYBE WITH THE APPROVAL OF SOMEONE'S HOA, IF THEY ARE INCLINED TO DO SOME NATIVE LANDSCAPING IN THEIR YARD, MAYBE THAT WILL SPARK SOME INTEREST AROUND THE CITY. I HAVE A QUESTION. GETTING FROM ONE SPOT TO THE OTHER. YEAH. AND THAT IS GOING TO BE A BIG PART OF THE PLAN IS THE FACT THAT THE ATHLETIC CAMPUS WILL BE, THERE'S A LOT OF KIDS THAT WILL WANT TO RIDE THEIR BIKES.
