PRIDE MARCHES WERE FIRST HELD IN SEVERAL US CITIES IN JUNE 28TH, 1970, AND PRIDE MONTH WAS FIRST FORMALLY RECOGNIZED ON JUNE 11TH, 1999, WHEN PRESIDENT WILLIAM J. CLINTON ISSUED PROCLAMATION 7203, WHICH WAS THEN EXPANDED ON BY PRESIDENT BARACK OBAMA IN 2009, DECLARING JUNE AS LESBIAN, GAY, BISEXUAL AND TRANSGENDER PRIDE MONTH.

AND WHEREAS PRIDE MONTH IS INTERNATIONALLY DESIGNATED AS A TIME TO CELEBRATE THE DIVERSITY AND CONTRIBUTIONS OF LGBTQ PLUS INDIVIDUALS. AND WHEREAS, THE CITY OF NEW ALBANY IS COMMITTED TO PROMOTING RESPECT, EQUALITY AND ACCEPTANCE FOR ALL OF OUR RESIDENTS AND GUESTS AND ACTIVELY WORKS TO CREATE A SAFE AND SUPPORTIVE ENVIRONMENT FOR ITS LBG B T, Q PLUS RESIDENTS, EMPLOYEES AND VISITORS. BUT AS YOU POINT OUT, EVERY JURISDICTION IS SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT BASED ON THE TAXES THAT ARE LEVIED AT THE LOCAL LEVEL. OF COURSE, THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY ALSO DID SOMETHING WITH THE 20 MILL FLOOR, WHICH I EXPECT A FULL UPDATE ON IN JUST A MINUTE. KIDDING.
